New GM-CSF Transfer Medium: Enhancing the Environment for Embryo Implantation

In assisted reproduction, one of the most delicate moments of the process is embryo transfer. It is the moment when the embryo comes into contact with the endometrium, initiating a key biological dialogue required for implantation to occur.

With the aim of optimizing this process, we have incorporated a new transfer medium: SAGE 1-Step GM-CSF, a solution enriched with a cytokine naturally present in the body.

What are cytokines and why are they important?

Cytokines are molecules that act as cellular messengers, enabling communication between different cells in the body.

In the reproductive context, they play a fundamental role in the interaction between the embryo and the endometrium, facilitating a suitable environment for implantation.

One of the most studied is GM-CSF (Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor), which is naturally present in the female reproductive tract.

What does GM-CSF contribute to embryo transfer?

The incorporation of GM-CSF into the transfer medium aims to replicate, as closely as possible, the physiological conditions of the uterus.

Its presence may contribute to:

  • Enhancing the interaction between the embryo and the endometrium

  • Improving implantation potential

  • Modulating the local immune response

  • Supporting early pregnancy development

This approach seeks to optimize the environment at a key stage of the process.

In which cases can it be especially useful?

The use of GM-CSF-enriched transfer media may be particularly relevant in patients with:

  • Previous implantation failure

  • Recurrent miscarriage

  • Advanced maternal age

  • History of unsuccessful IVF cycles

In these cases, every adjustment to the environment can make a difference.
